My Mother and her Strive to Help Me Achieve
To start of this story right, my family has been the backbone to my reading and writing competence. My Mother always strives to make sure that I excel in whatever I do because she wants to see the best in everything because the outcome will be worth it. My Mother was the person who started to teach me how to read and write at a young age.
I remember when I was really young, watching a video (on the good ol' VHS player) of my sister reading at only the age of four, and it made me want to follow in the same footsteps as her because I always thought that reading was interesting. All the little letters placed on a page, and at that time, having pictures to help the reader what was happening in the story. It allowed for my imagination to run wild as I learned about what the dog Spot was doing, and what his purpose was for running. My mother saw that I had interested in this, and started focusing on teaching me to read and write. My mothers first real goal was to help spell out my name, and to tell you the truth, Thomas is a really hard name to spell at such a young age. It took me a long time to realize that the H was silent. My mother could tell that I was getting pretty aggravated with this, but she would not let me stop. She would sit me down and have me write my name out over and over again until I got it right.
My mother kept up with my writing and reading skills as I got into preschool. She would always make sure that I wrote little notes to people in their birthday cards or Christmas cards. She would have me write it on lined paper first to make sure that my spelling was accurate, and after I would have her edit it in any way that she felt fit, I would then write it down on the card that would be sent to family and friends all over the place. This constant need for writing and reading helped me through my first couple years of elementary school, and would in turn get me into the My first foot into the door of writing is all thanks to my Mother, and without her constant support along with the rest of my family, I would not be where I am today.
